Dr Rob Hickman

Dr Rob Hickman is a Post Doc Research Associate in Sleep and Mental Health. He completed a BSc in Psychology at Cardiff University, working as an Honorary Assistant Psychologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) during his sandwich year. He obtained an MRes in Developmental Neuroscience and Psychopathology at University College London (UCL) and Yale University. At Yale his thesis explored the effects of an adjunctive Social Rhythm Therapy (SRT) for adolescents and young adults diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Rob’s PhD was funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) at the Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). The EClocker project looked at the impact of sleep-circadian disturbances and shift schedules on the wellbeing of NHS staff, utilising multi-modal digital tools, wearables, and smartphone based experience sampling (ESM). Acceptability of a pilot sleep aid intervention for night shift NHS staff was also explored in collaboration with an industry partner.
