Professor Gurprit S Lall

Prof Gurprit S Lall is a Professor of Neuroscience and a neuroscientist based at the University of Kent, Division of Natural Sciences specialising in sleep, circadian rhythms and mental health. His research interests focus on how the circadian clock in our brain regulates and synchronises our behavioural and physiological rhythms with our environmental day-night cycle.  His lab group currently works on a range of circadian and sleep-based models from basic scientific research to a patient focus on individuals suffering from neurological disorders from psychosis through to Parkinson’s Disease.  He has published research on how daylight is able to manipulate the clock and, most recently, how ageing impacts this process.  In addition to this, Gurprit is also the Deputy Divisional Director for Natural Science and a Chair of the University BAME (Black, Asian and minority ethnic) staff Network.

Prof Lall is also a co-investigator on the CHiP-D Project and is interested in how disturbances to circadian entrainment can be associated with states of depression and seasonal effective disorder. Prof Lall will also provide specific input to the physiological markers adopted in the project, the processing of biological samples and integration with remaining markers.
