Professor Sukhi Shergill

Sukhi Shergill is Professor of Psychiatry and Systems Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King's College London, and a consultant psychiatrist in the National Psychosis Service at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. People who have treatment-refractory psychosis are referred here from all over the UK. Much of his research utilises neuroimaging and aims to understand more about the brain mechanisms involved in the symptoms of psychosis in order to develop new, effective treatments for the large number of people with schizophrenia who do not respond to antipsychotic medication. He heads the Cognition, Schizophrenia and Imaging Laboratory (CSI Lab) that comprises two dozen academics, clinical researchers, PhD and other students. He is Director of the King’s Centre for CNS Therapeutics which facilitates closer collaboration between King’s researchers and commercial and charitable entities to develop improved therapies for central nervous system disorders.
