Manal Almugathwi
Manal is a PhD candidate in Cognitive Neuropsychology at the University of Kent, supervised by Dr Andrew Martin, Professor Sukhi Shergill and Professor Jim Ang. Her research focuses on social cognition in psychosis and social anxiety, with particular emphasis on how interpretation biases and belief updating influence social functioning.
Her doctoral work integrates immersive virtual reality (VR), non-invasive brain stimulation (tDCS), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying paranoid ideation and interpretation bias, and to enhance social cognitive processes in clinical populations. This research is conducted in collaboration with King’s College London and aims to bridge cognitive neuroscience and clinical practice to develop innovative, evidence-based approaches that improve social outcomes for people experiencing psychosis and related conditions.
